At age 16, after a complicated adolescence, his parents sent him to follow the program of the Outward Bound structure.
It is a non-profit organization that offers experiential education. Its purpose is to help individuals discover forces they did not know existed and to increase their self-confidence. In wild environments, participants discover that they can do more than they thought they could do.
If Jack Curran came back from OutwardBound with a different vision of life, he gradually resumed his bad habits, until he reached the bottom when he was 18 years old. That’s what made him change his life.
Shortly after celebrating his 19th birthday, Jack enrolled in a university course entitled « Introduction to Black and White Photography 101 ». What he thought was an easy way to get a good rating became a passion when he saw the first picture appear in the darkroom.
A teacher quickly discovered his passion to explore through the lens and to translate the magic of a draw to the development of the film and pushed him to go further. Jack Curran finally knew what direction to give his life, determined to link his love of the outdoors, born from his stay at Outward Bound to his new passion for photography.
The photos of Jack Curran, exclusively in black and white – because the color photo doesn’t suit him – reflect his love and respect for nature.
A prize-winning photographer, published in numerous magazines and exposed several times, Jack Curran doesn’t hesitate to donate his photos to important causes that help our planet and those in need.
I think that black-and-white photography offers an aesthetic unity and highlights the lights and shadows. Jack Curran’s photographs make me want to explore this universe
